Plastic Waste Valorization for Fused Deposition Modeling Feedstock: A Case Study on Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate/High-Density Polyethylene Sustainability

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this study, material development, characterization, and sustainability assessment are performed on blends from recycled post-consumer commodity plastics for fused deposition modeling (FDM) filament extrusion. A polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) high-density (rHDPE) blend 80:20 ratio is modified using three different methods: compatibilization with Maleic Anhydride, surface functionalization of PET sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), hybridization by combination the two methods which a novel approach. The selected were reinforced chopped glass fibers characterized. printability was assessed, dimensional accuracy prints calculated. addition, cost estimation comparison between developed commercially available FDM filaments carried out. Finally, life cycle (LCA) conducted each prepared to facilitate decision optimum in relation mechanical properties environmental performance hence correlate material, economic, advantages.

Catalytic conversion of waste low density polyethylene into fuel oil

Waste Low density polyethylenes (LDPE) represent a source of energy and valuablechemicals, were pyrolysed catalytically in a batch reactor under atmospheric pressure. Calciumcarbide was used as a catalyst to explore its effect on pyrolysis product distribution. The effect oftemperature, amount of catalyst and time on the yields of the pyrolysed products wasinvestigated. The effect of catalyst o...

Fractional Distillation Process Utilized to Produce Light Fractional Fuel from Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Waste Plastic

Plastics are not easily biodegradable; and because of these characteristics they can remain under landfill and water for a very long period of time. All over the world only 6% of waste plastics are recycled and the rest of all waste plastics are dumped into landfills. An experiment was conducted in a laboratory scale batch process under Labconco’s fume hood utilizing low density polyethylene (L...

Preparation of High Density Polyethylene/Waste Polyurethane Blends Compatibilized with Polyethylene-Graft-Maleic Anhydride by Radiation

Polyurethane (PU) is a very popular polymer that is used in a variety of applications due to its good mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties. However, PU recycling has received significant attention due to environmental issues. In this study, we developed a recycling method for waste PU that utilizes the radiation grafting technique. Grafting of waste PU was carried out using a radiation ...

Influence of lubricant oil residual fraction on recycled high density polyethylene properties and plastic packaging reverse logistics proposal

To recycle post-consumer HDPE contaminated with waste lubricating oils, companies include prior washing and drying in the process. This consumes large amounts of water and energy, generates significant effluent requiring treatment. This study assesses lubricating oil influence on HDPE properties to evaluate the feasibility of its direct mechanical recycling without washing. The current lubricat...
